Ribes speciosum
'Fuchsia Flowered Goose Berry' |
HOME |
Another of the lovely currants, this plant grows quickly to about 8-10 tall with long, graceful arching branches which gives an ideal look for a Zen type garden. The branches sport delicate, hanging Fuchsia type red flowers. Despite the name, it is not a true Fuchsia by any means. The bright red flowers line the entire length of the branches and are also candy to the hummingbirds. This plant blooms in Feb-March and also becomes dormant in the summer. It does need a well drained soil, but can adapt well to hot conditions as well as cooler, part shade environments. This plant also makes an excellent specimen plant or works well in borders. Prune back from any paths because the branches do have quite sharp thorns. |
